Municipal Specialist Scholarship Available through ISA
The ISA Certification Department just received approval for an extension of the USDA Forest Service Grant that was
previously used for ISA Certified Arborist credential and now to be used for the Municipal Specialist credential. ISA
will start taking scholarship applications in the early spring which is great timing because the Municipal Specialist
Study Guide recently arrived at ISA.
The candidates will get the new Municipal Specialist Study Guide and exam fees paid for in addition to membership.
Candidates will have the choice of ISA and chapter or ISA and Society of Municipal Arborists membership for the year.
ISA is hoping to have at least 100 applicants become ISA Certified Arborist/Municipal Specialists. Once one earns the
specialist credential, ISA requires that the candidate provide a project in their community such as an Arbor Day project.
This project is meant to educate the public and community leaders on proper tree care practices.
Eligible scholarship candidates must be ISA Certified Arborists in good standing and meet the necessary experience
requirements needed to become a Municipal Specialist. A completed ISA Certified Arborist/Municipal application, two letters
of recommendation, a résumé, and a questionnaire will be required.
If you are interested in applying for this scholarship or would like more general information, please contact the ISA
Certification Department at (217) 355-9411 or cert@isa-arbor.com.

The Electrical Hazards Awareness Program (EHAP) from TCIA is a training program that employers can use in conjunction

conductor to be trained in the potential hazards involved with such work.
TCIA has been awarded a federal OSHA/Susan Harwood grant to provide FREE* EHAP workshops in 2008, allowing professionals
to be trained in electrical hazards awareness at no cost. EHAP workshops allow large groups to be trained and fulfill many
of the program’s requirements in one day. All necessary EHAP program materials will be provided at no cost.
*There is a nominal fee for lunch and refreshments.
You must register in advance with TCIA to attend. To register go to TCIA

Emerald Ash Borer Update
Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), an ash-tree killing insect from Asia, was identified in Ohio in 2003. Since then,
the Ohio Department of Agriculture has been battling the pest through detection and regulation to protect
the state’s more than 3.8 billion ash trees.
The department has quarantined parts of Ohio to help stop the movement of EAB through ash tree material,
which could harbor the destructive pest and possibly carry it to other parts of the state. It is illegal to
take ash trees, parts of ash trees, and all hardwood firewood out of Ohio’s quarantined areas. For a map of
the latest quarantined area, or for more information on compliance and detection go to
www.ohioagriculture.gov/eab
or call 1-888-OHIO-EAB.
